Matcha Cafe Maiko brings matcha tea and soft-serve to Frisco

Matcha soft-serve at Matcha Cafe Maiko
A new shop from Hawaii dedicated to matcha has debuted in DFW: Called Matcha Cafe Maiko, it serves matcha teas and matcha soft-serve ice cream, and has opened in a Frisco shopping strip at 9244 Prestmont Pl. #207.
Matcha Cafe Maiko was founded in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2016. It’s owned by hospitality group Eight USA Inc. and has grown to 22 locations across the U.S., plus one location in Canada. This is the second location in Texas; there's also a shop in San Antonio that opened in 2020.
Matcha is the Japanese green tea powder that's been having a moment lately. Matcha Cafe is transparent about their sourcing: They import their matcha powder from Uji, a city in the southern part of Kyoto that's recognized for its top-notch matcha, from a supplier named Harima Garden, who've been in operation since 1858.
Their menu features teas and frozen desserts including soft-serve and shaved ice. The teas include regular matcha as well as hojicha green tea which is roasted. They're also available in latte form with milk, or in frappe form — a frozen, blended version. Prices range from $7 to $9.
The soft serve comes in two options: matcha green tea or vanilla, which can be ordered as a swirl. They make their own waffle cones daily. They also offer it in a parfait, with cake, chestnuts, red bean paste, corn flakes, jellies, and mochi; and an over-the-top item called The Golden Shogun soft serve, topped with 23.7K gold leaf.
Bringing the concept to Frisco is entrepreneur Theresa Lam. This is her first business.
“Frisco’s growing population and appreciation for diverse culinary experiences make it an ideal spot for introducing authentic Japanese matcha offerings,” Lam says. "Expanding into North Texas allows Matcha Cafe Maiko to tap into a new market eager for unique and high-quality matcha products, further establishing its presence in the U.S."
