Get pizza by-the-slice and martinis at new Dallas restaurant in Harwood District
Dallas can never get enough pizza and here comes Harwood Hospitality Group to the rescue with Poco Fiasco, a new restaurant opening at 2828 N. Harwood St. in the Harwood District near downtown Dallas on December 1.
In a nutshell, it's pizza + martinis, with pizza inspired by pizzerias found in Brooklyn. This means a large foldable slice with a crispy outer crust and a little chew.
The concept was created by Harwood Hospitality Group corporate chef Taylor Kearney, and Poco Fiasco executive chef JP Mancha, whose resume includes Bijoux, The Cedars Social, 18th & Vine BBQ, and CT Provisions. He joined Harwood in December 2021 and has served as executive chef at Saint Ann Restaurant & Bar and helped reopen Dolce Riviera in May 2022.
In a release, Mancha says they took elements from the Northeast, but also improvised on toppings such as a pizza with spinach and artichoke. Snaps and claps to this kind of improvisation.
Pizzas come in 12-, 16-, or 18-inch sizes and include:
- Prosciutto - white sauce, mozzarella, sliced garlic, ricotta, arugula, pecorino, and hot honey
- Quattro Formaggio - mozzarella, ricotta, parmesan, roasted garlic, and oregano
- The Donkey - diablo sauce, pepperoni, spicy Italian sausage, red onion, fennel pollen
- The Fig & Favor - shaved roasted lamb, cucumber sauce, parmesan, dill, feta, and fig jam; and The Texan - cheddar, HWD brisket, house BBQ sauce, pickled red onion.
Starters include garlic knots, fried mozzarella sticks, and charred eggplant dip served with flatbread. Salads include a Greek, baby kale Caesar, and Caprese.
Entrees are described as rustic Italian and include baked manicotti and chicken parm. There is also a meatball sub and a gyro sandwich on house-made flatbread, with lamb, cucumber sauce, tomato, red onion, feta, and dill.
Desserts include Sweet Knots tossed in cinnamon sugar and served with cream cheese frosting; and a Dessert Pizza with cookie spread, marshmallow, chocolate sauce, and caramel.
Martinis
The beverage menu is dominated by classic martinis and trendy martinis including an Espresso Martini, as well as a build-your-own option from different vodkas, gins, vermouths, and garnishes.
The wine list will lean Italian like the Tower of Pisa, and there'll be local beers on draft.
Located in the Harwood's Rue Purdue area near siblings Harwood Arms and Elephant East, the space will seat 68 inside and 86 on a covered patio. A signature of the space is its ceiling mural done in collaboration Dallas-based Artist Uprising, an organization that connects up-and-coming artists with corporations.
About that mural, Harwood's design director Melinda Clark points out things to look for:
“The mural depicts a feverish party turned fiasco combining favorite Harwood moments throughout the district. A few Harwood motifs are illustrated including Harwood Arms and Magnolias: Sous Le Pont as well as signature Harwood District design aspects such as the blue tree from Te Deseo, life-size chess board from Marie Gabrielle, and a few samurai to represent the Barbier-Mueller Samurai Collection. The quirkiness of the restaurant is carried through to the unique wallpapers, art selections on the walls, and playful figurines appointed throughout the space.”
Poco Fiasco will also feature a walkup window for to-go orders, with pizza by-the-slice. They'll be open daily for lunch and dinner.
This is Harwood Hospitality Group’s 11th concept, if you can believe it, joining siblings such as Happiest Hour, Te Deseo, and Dolce Riviera which span the 19-city block Harwood District.
