Cajun seafood spot shutters location in Dallas’ Preston Hollow Village
A local Cajun seafood chain has shuttered its only Dallas restaurant: Tricky Fish has closed its location in Dallas' Preston Hollow Village after five years.
Customers who went to the restaurant on the last weekend of March found it closed without warning. The restaurant subsequently posted a notice of its closure on April 2, but didn’t share a specific reason for why.
“We have made the decision to close our Walnut Hill location,” the post said. “We look forward to seeing you at our other 3 locations in Frisco at The Star District, Fort Worth at Waterside, or Richardson at CityLine (just 10 minutes up 75!) Follow us on social to find out what's next for Tricky Fish!”
Tricky Fish was originally launched in 2016 by the Razzoo's Cajun Cafe chain as a small-format, fast-casual extension with a stronger focus on seafood, inspired by (and named for) Razzoo's famous Tricky Fish dish consisting of fish topped with crawfish etouffee over dirty rice.
The menu includes gumbo, oysters, oyster shooters, calamari, peel & eat shrimp, crab cakes, boudin balls, and fried green tomatoes.
Entrees include fish & chips, shrimp and grits, shrimp linguine, crawfish etouffee, and fried platters with choice of shrimp, catfish, crawfish, or oysters. They also have a sizable cocktail list.
They opened their first location in 2017 in the CityLine development in Richardson, followed by a second restaurant in Fort Worth's Waterside in August 2018.
Dallas opened in 2019 at 7859 Walnut Hill Ln. #170, in the same center as Trader Joe’s and Blue Sushi Sake Grill, and The Star District in Frisco was their fourth, opening in 2022.
Midstream, Razzoo's decided in 2019 to spin off the concept, to give it its own momentum, placing it under the ownership of CEO Chris Degan, who called it "a concept that blends unforgettable flavor with light, fresh, quality seafood, in an environment that is relaxed as well as quick and convenient."
Despite its advantageous location and the magnet that is Trader Joe's, Preston Hollow Village has seen some restaurant closures, most due to the pandemic, including Frost Gelato, Matchbox, Blatt Beer & Table, and Pakpao, all of which closed in mid-2020.
