For more than half a century, the Junior League of Dallas has set aside one night to celebrate the organization's efforts to improve the community through volunteerism, leadership and action. More than 5,000 members dedicate more than 130,000 hours annually to volunteer projects in fields such as arts and cultural enrichment, health, family preservation, poverty intervention, and violence intervention.
That is more than cause for celebration.
At this year's ball, themed "Joie de Vivre," more than 700 chic attendees — including ball chair Bunny Cotten, JLD president Aimee Griffiths, Doris and Jack Jacobs, Peggy and Carl Sewell, Carol Sewell Jr., Josie McGrey, Jennifer and Chris LeLash, Cary and Mark Deuber, and Cachet and Bill Weinberg — gathered at the Hilton Anatole for a French-inspired affair. Even the menu was flavored with French accents, such as ratatouille and filet de boeuf with sauce bearnaise.
Ladies and gents decked out in tuxedos and exquisite gowns hit the dance floor — but not to waltz to the sounds of Maurice Ravel or Edith Piaf. The evening's master entertainer was Andy Grammer, known for hit single "Keep Your Head Up."
Judging by the packed dance floor, empty cocktail glasses and happy faces, this philanthropic crowd understood the true "joy of living."
