During the hottest month of the year, it’s not often you can get 80 women to RSVP for an afternoon fete. But attendance was hardly an issue at the first-ever Chick Lit reunion with author Emily Giffin, speaker at the 2011 luncheon, at the home of Sandy Moore.

Community Partners of Dallas devotees donated school supplies at the door, and vino flowed freely in Moore’s elegant living room. To set the mood, the hostess played Something Borrowed on three screens while ladies lined up to chat with the writer and get a signature on her most recent novel, Where We Belong.

How did the darling New York Times best-selling author get to be such great friends with our generous Dallasite?

Here’s the scoop: In 2006, CPD supporter Kelly Smith met Emily Giffin at the Ritz-Carlton, Dallas. While the two hit it off over cocktails, Moore was reading Something Borrowed on a beach in Hawaii and texted Smith, “I don’t trust Darcy” (referencing one of the main characters in the novel). The friendship was set when the three ladies made it a ritual to reunite whenever the writer came to town for book signings and the 2011 Chick Lit Luncheon.

When Moore learned that her talented friend would be back in Dallas, she opened up her lovely Highland Park home, reeling in Chick Lit supporters and Giffin fans including Adria Alcazar, Lauren Sifferman, Melissa Johnston, Katie Edwards, Katy Spicer, Stacey Walker, Lisa Singleton, Angee Web and Gina Dunn.
