Sandy Hook hero to serve as keynote for 2014 Spirit of Contact Luncheon
The Carolina Herrera boutique in Highland Park Village was the place to see and be seen recently, as Dallas supporters of the Spirit of Contact Luncheon joined event chair Leigh Anne Haugh and honorary chair Mike Boone for a special announcement.
Attendees — including Monica Egret Smith, Jan Baldwin, Kristina Whitcomb, Barbara and Bob Johnson, and Linda and Leslie Secrest — nibbled on Tex-Mex bites courtesy of Mi Cocina before Contact president Benaye Rogers revealed that Kaitlin Roig would be the 2014 Spirit of Contact Award recipient and keynote speaker.
Roig is the Sandy Hook teacher who rushed her first-graders into the bathroom during the tragic December 2012 shooting in which 25 teachers and children were gunned down. She provided immeasurable comfort to her children that day.
"Kaitlin stepped into that moment of crisis and brought a turning point of hope and courage to a classroom of frightened children," Rogers said.
The 18th annual Spirit of Contact Luncheon, From Breaking Point to Turning Point: Conversations of Hope, will be held on March 27, 2014, at the Hilton Anatole. Tickets can be purchased online.
