Leading Dallas philanthropist pulls out all the stops for inaugural Fashion Stars for a Cause
When Yvonne Crum sets her mind to something, great things happen. Such was the case with the first-ever Fashion Stars for a Cause at Dallas Country Club.
Crum, as founder and event chair, rounded up an impressive crew to help, including advisory chairs Lisa Petty and Carolyn Tillery and honorary chairs Melody and Rick Rogers. Together they made it a special night benefiting the Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas, an organization near and dear to Crum’s heart.
Elegantly dressed guests arrived to a cocktail reception, where fellow supporters were sipping signature cocktails created especially for the event — and we have the recipe to prove it: one part vodka, two parts pomegranate juice, one part seltzer and a splash of grenadine. Crum thinks of everything, no?
Cocktails were followed by dinner, naturally, and then the main event began. This year’s fashion stars — Hilary Kennedy, Alex Small, Toni Munoz-Hunt, Antonia Hubert, Britt Harless, Ashley Burghardt, Cynthia Smoot, Robin Brock, Carla Miller, Regina Bruce and Rhonda Marcus — walked the runway wearing looks by Tootsies. In addition to serving as models for the show, these ladies also took part in a fashion shoot with presenting sponsor Beverly Drive, and they have been advocates for the Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas, promoting its good works and programs.
In the most touching moment of the evening, guest speaker Terry Bentley Hill bravely shared the story of losing multiple family members to suicide. Hill moved many in the audience to tears as she expressed hope and gratitude despite her circumstances.
The evening concluded with a surprise for Crum: Morgan Mabry Mason performed one of Crum’s all-time favorite songs, “For Good,” from the musical Wicked. After the solo, Crum received a standing ovation by guests, including LeAnne Locken, Shona Gilbert, Dawn Mellon, Margie Wright, Laurie Graham, Chris King, and Stacy and David Blank.
