1. New Dallas restaurant chain Bread Zeppelin reinvents the salad. When talking about salads, it's hard to reinvent the wheel. Bread Zeppelin, a Dallas chain-in-the-making that debuts in July, seems to have found a new twist. For starters, the salads are chopped. And you can get them in an unusual hollowed-out baguette that makes for easy, muss-proof transport.
2. Crazy ants drive out fire ants in Texas invasion. According to University of Texas at Austin science researchers, the common fire ant is at risk of being displaced by the Tawny crazy ant, which is not the same as Tammy, your crazy aunt.
3. Three Texas watering holes rank among America's best bars. In a move that’s sure to ruffle a few Yankee feathers, Esquire’s 2013 list of the best bars in America eschews New York City in favor of the Midwest and beyond. Dallas’ Windmill Lounge made the list, along with Cloak Room in Austin and Esquire Tavern in San Antonio.
4. Boy Scouts eventually will end the ban on gay adults too, because of course they will. Columnist Eric Celeste writes that the vote pretty much mirrored public opinion, which shows two-thirds of Americans are in favor of this move. BSA still doesn’t accept gay adults as Scout leaders, but that will change too. We're going to miss your deductive reasoning, Eric (see No. 5).
5. While Irving mayor settles scores, city loses money, talent and time. Eric Celeste wonders aloud what the sweet hell is going on in Irving. And when will people start holding its mayor responsible?
