    This Week's Hot Headlines

East Dallas house with '50s flair tops this week's 5 hottest headlines

    Stephanie Allmon Merry
    Aug 10, 2019 | 10:00 am

Editor's note: A lot happened this week, so here's your chance to get caught up. Read on for the week's most popular headlines.

    1. Will someone who likes the '50s please buy this Dallas house for sale? There's a '50s Dallas home for sale near Ferguson Road that's being described as a "fantastic opportunity to update a home on a creek in East Dallas." Here's an idea: How about buying this house and leaving it just as it is?

    2. Italian restaurant at Plano's Shops at Legacy to close after 15 years. A longtime Italian restaurant dating back to the '90s is bidding us alla prossima: Nicola's Ristorante Italiano, which has been doing authentic northern Italian food at the Shops at Legacy since 2005, will close at the end of August.

    3. Cinemark dollar theater in Plano upgrades with luxurious amenities. Cinemark Movies 10 in Plano, which for the past 25 years has offered residents of Plano and the surrounding area second-run movies at discounted prices, is being transformed into a luxury, first-run theater by its parent corporation.

    4. This surprising DFW ZIP code is one of the hottest neighborhoods in the U.S. What may be a well-kept secret isn’t anymore — one of the hottest neighborhoods in the state, no, the entire United States is in Arlington. Seriously.

    5. Sophisticated supper club with '60s vibe swings into Uptown Dallas. A new bar from a deeply experienced hospitality team is adding a unique nightlife experience to Uptown Dallas. Called Clover Club, it's a multi-level concept now open at 2404 Cedar Springs Rd., in the space that has housed such bygone entities as Nikkei, Medici, Lift, and Teddy’s Room.

Cinemark's Luxury Loungers, complete with heat control, will be part of the redesigned Cinemark Movies 10 in Plano.

William Shatner boldly goes on Star Trek tour with stop in Dallas

The Long Center presents William Shatner and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
    undefined

Actor William Shatner, aka Captain James T. Kirk from the original Star Trek series and ensuing movie franchise, will bring nostalgia to fans around the country with a U.S. tour in summer 2025, including a stop at Majestic Theatre in Dallas on Wednesday, July 30.

At each stop, there will be a screening of the classic Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, followed by an appearance by Shatner, who will take the stage to share behind-the-scenes stories from his life and career and answer audience questions.

For now, the tour consists of four stops in the summer (including Houston on July 31) and four more in November. If that doesn't seem like very many, remember that Shatner will turn 94 on March 22, making any appearances worthy of celebration.

Appearing alongside a screening of The Wrath of Khan is a semi-regular occurrence for Shatner; most recently, he put on shows in Austin and Sugar Land in 2023.

His last similar appearance in Dallas was February 2020, although he did come to Dallas in 2024 as part of Fan Expo Dallas.

The appetite for Star Trek never seems to dim. In a recent interview, Shatner revealed that he's frequently been asked to come back as Kirk, including one promising pitch that prompted Shatner to tweet, "I’ve been approached to resurrect Kirk. It’s all still up in the air (or is it buried under some rocks?) Whichever the case I’m waiting to hear what the folks at Paramount have to say."

Meanwhile, a popular themed cruise called Star Trek: The Cruise IX, will set sail for the ninth time, this year celebrating the 60th anniversary of the series, featuring stars on board such as Shatner and Walter Koenig, who played Ensign Pavel Chekov.

Tickets for this eevent go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 7 at ATTPAC.org. VIP tickets are available, which include a post-show photo opportunity with Shatner.
