Yigal Azrouël is a real cut-up. For spring 2014, the dashing designer has created a sharply tailored collection featuring shades of black, white and gray, with peek-a-boo cut-outs on the side, above the breasts and at the midriff that show just a hint of skin.
He also uses eyelet prints and mesh fabrics in transparent bomber jackets, coats and jackets that achieve the neat trick of exposing the body while covering it up at the same time.
The collection has a streetwise attitude, with the clean, architectural lines the designer is known for. And Azrouël uses innovative fabrics in unusual ways — one of his trademarks.
He uses lambskin leathers that have a lightweight look — you'd never guess the fabric in a croc-embossed strapless dress or a color-block moto jacket is lambskin or leather — and coated jacquards with texture that beg to be touched.
Azrouël breaks up the monocromatic tone of the collection with several looks in branch-print patterns — a silk branch-print gown with a crisscross neckline, side cutouts and a thigh-high slit is a stunner for a body-conscious woman — and some styles in a black-and-white geometric jacquard pattern.
