1. Italian spot from radio's Gene and Julie tops the charts in Dallas restaurant news. January is traditionally a dull, dull month for restaurant news of any kind, but 2013 is already looking to buck that trend. In addition to the news of Battuto Italian Kitchen, brainchild of former KVIL-FM morning duo Gene and Julie, senior editor Teresa Gubbins discovers that Pho is For Lovers will open a second location in North Dallas.
2. Highland Park High School students sent home early after second threatening note. When school officials found a second suspicious letter in as many days, they decided to cancel classes an hour early "out of caution." Well, after a bomb squad search of the campus came up empty, school resumed on schedule Friday. And, like clockwork, a third threatening note appeared. This time, though, school officials called the missive a hoax, and classes continued.
3. Stylish hipsters descend on The Old Bike Shop for Warby Parker Class Trip party. Motorcycle store The Old Bike Shop was an unexpected venue for the Warby Parker Class Trip party, but it was the perfect spot to host hundreds of chic, socially conscious hipsters for the kickoff for the Warby Parker pop-up shop.
4. Don't have money for college? Sugar daddies help Texas university students pay tuition. Texas university women are signing up for SeekingArrangement.com at a higher rate than just about anywhere else in the country. Texas State University came in at No. 10, and the University of North Texas was three spots behind it.
5. Social House returns to Uptown Dallas and settles into old Arcodoro space. Northern wanderer Social House Addison is at long last returning to its place of birth. The restaurant-bar will return to Uptown Dallas, opening a second branch in the old Arcodoro-Pomodoro space at 2708 Routh St.
