Grandma Marijuana Operation
Southlake police bust babysitting grandparents for pot possession
Southlake police arrested a pair of grandparents for possession of marijuana after finding plants, firearms and a pot-growing operation in their home, along with an infant.
Julia Elizabeth Thacker, 51, and Keith Edward Fields, 52, were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana following a January 12 visit by the Southlake Police Department.
The police went to a house in the 100 block of Sweet Street, not far from police headquarters, in response to a request to conduct a welfare check on an infant residing there. The request implied that marijuana was allegedly being smoked and sold.
Officers went to the residence to check the welfare of the infant. Their investigation gave them probable cause to believe that marijuana was located within the residence, so they obtained a search warrant.
Their search yielded approximately 55 marijuana plants, numerous firearms and ammunition, and a "multi-stage marijuana growing operation."
The infant in the house, and the grandson of the duo, was relocated with a family member by Child Protective Services. Thacker and Fields have been charged with possession of marijuana greater than five pounds but less than 50 pounds.
