American Sniper Trial Verdict
Jury reaches verdict in murder trial of American Sniper Chris Kyle
After little more than two hours' of deliberation, a jury found Eddie Ray Routh, 27, guilty of capital murder in the fatal shootings of "American Sniper" Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield.
The verdict came in just after 9 pm in the court of Erath County Judge Jason Cashon, who sentenced Routh to life without possibility of parole.
Routh, a former Marine, shot Kyle and Littlefield during a trip to an outdoor shooting range on February 2, 2013. After the crime, he confessed to the police that he "had to kill men today."
Routh pleaded guilty by reason of insanity, and a doctor at a Veterans Affairs hospital diagnosed him with PTSD. But the jury determined that it was not the cause of the murders.
Kyle, a former Navy Seal, was the subject of a movie and book, American Sniper.
