    Up and Moving

Warm up to these safe outdoor exercise options across Dallas-Fort Worth

    CultureMap Create
    May 21, 2020 | 12:00 pm

In the two months since Dallas went into lockdown for the COVID-19 pandemic, you've probably done (or at least tried) every virtual workout available.

But now restrictions are loosening and you might be getting tired of your at-home athletics set-up — no offense, hard-working yoga mat. Even with some gyms reopening, not everyone is ready to get sweaty indoors surrounded by other people, even if they do promise to stay six feet away.

Enter this list: a curated selection of exercise options that take place in the great outdoors. Some can be enjoyed solo while others are technically part of a group, but by their very design you'll be a lot farther away from the other participants than if you were on that row of Treadmills.

    Event: Body Before Brunch
Date: May 24, 8:30–11 am (Gates open at 8:30; class begins at 9)
Location: The Eye at the Joule
Description: Enjoy a 50-minute workout by Freedom, a new mindful and athletic practice launching in Dallas, followed by a brunch to-go from Queso Beso. Founder Cody Shelton will lead a mindful, high-intensity, high-energy strength and conditioning class suitable for all levels. You must bring your own mat, and class size is obviously limited. Each person attending is required to have purchased a $35 ticket in advance.

    Event: Dogma Soul Hike
    Date: June 6, 10 am-12 pm
Location: Santa Fe Trail near Lindsley Park
Description: Bring your No. 1 quarantine buddy — your pup — along for a leashed morning hike, followed by a gentle, all-levels yoga session in the park. You can also purchase a hand-dyed mask and bandana set to look stylish while you social distance. Entry fees are $40 for the hike, yoga, and mask and bandana set; $30 for just the hike, yoga, and bandana; and $20 for hike and yoga only. Don't worry if you don't have a dog — you're still welcome to participate!

    Event: Third Saturday Trail Walks
    Date(s): June 20, July 18, August 15
    Location: Various parks in Frisco
Description: Each of these short, guided, free walks has a theme, and are suitable for all ages and abilities. The first is at Beavers Bend Park, with a flat, paved trail that's suitable for walkers and strollers. The second is at Frisco Commons Park and is devoted to nature journaling, and the third is a pup-focused walk around Cottonwood Creek Greenbelt.

Event: Sunrise Hike with Super Yoga Palace
    Date: July 11, 6-8:30 am
    Location: Trinity River Audubon Center
Description: Get your feet in the earth and celebrate summer with a community hike led by Kristin Goss. The hike is free, but you must RSVP here and will need to pay your own admission to the TRAC.

    Date: Anytime!
    Location: Downtown Dallas parks
Description: Main Street Garden and Pacific Plaza offer ample green space for a jog alone or with your quarantine buddies, and off-the-beaten-path spots such as Lubben Plaza offer a nice respite of shade.

    Date: Anytime!
    Location: Fort Worth parks
Description: Looking to be one with nature while staying far away from everybody else? Visit Fort Worth has rounded up 10 off-the-beaten-path parks to stroll through, along with resources for renting bikes. It also offers a few reminders about social distancing and ways to keep safe while out and about — something we all could use a refresher on.

    Greet the day outdoors.

Dallas earns a slot on new list of America's most fun cities

Dallas is a fun place to be, the study says.

Dallas' fun entertainment and nightlife scenes have helped the city improve in WalletHub's just-released ranking of the most fun American cities in 2025. Dallas now stands tall as the 26th most fun U.S. city this year.

WalletHub's "Most Fun Cities in America (2025)" study compared 182 U.S. cities across 65 metrics — spanning from the number of sports venues, music venues, and shopping centers per capita to the average cost for a restaurant meal — to determine how "fun" each city is. The metrics were split among three main categories: entertainment and recreation, nightlife and parties, and cost.

Las Vegas, Nevada continued its multi-year streak as the No. 1 most fun American city.

Across the three key dimensions, Dallas scored the highest for its nightlife and parties rank (No. 23), but its entertainment and recreation ranks (No. 35) and costs (No. 99) still have room for improvement. But overall, Dallas' level of "fun" is far higher than most U.S. cities.

Dallas' current "fun" status is five places higher than its 2024 rank as the No. 31 most fun American city.

Elsewhere in North Texas, Fort Worth ranked as the 60th most fun American city, while Arlington (No. 71) and Plano (No. 78) lagged farther behind.

    Texas' most fun cities
Houston overtook Austin as the 6th most fun city in America and the No. 1 most fun Texas city for 2025. Austin, which ranked No. 6 last year, dropped two spots and now ranks No. 8 on the list.

Three more Texas cities that appeared in the top 100 include: San Antonio (No. 23), El Paso (No. 62), and Corpus Christi (No. 94).

"The decision of where to live could save or cost you a lot of money and fun, so it’s fair to wonder what makes a fun city," the report's author wrote. "In a city with enough variety, you won’t have to compromise with your friends, family, or even yourself about the next fun activity to do alone or together."

Surprisingly, both Chicago and New York City dropped out of the top 10 most fun American cities. Chicago now ranks as No. 11, and New York City ranks 14th on the list.

WalletHub's top 10 most fun U.S. cities in 2025 are:

    • No. 1 – Las Vegas, Nevada
    • No. 2 – Orlando, Florida
    • No. 3 – Miami, Florida
    • No. 4 – Atlanta, Georgia
    • No. 5 – New Orleans, Louisiana
    • No. 6 – Houston, Texas
    • No. 7 – San Francisco, California
    • No. 8 – Austin, Texas
    • No. 9 – Portland, Oregon
    • No. 10 – Cincinnati, Ohio
