Where to shop in Dallas right now: 10 must-hit stores for January
The holidays are behind us, and our buyer’s remorse is finally starting to lift. So, just in time for spring cleaning, here are 10 stores to help restock your closet and redecorate your home:
Arteriors
The Dallas-based home-furnishing company recently opened its first lighting showroom at Dallas Market Center. "I consider lighting to be the jewelry for the home," says founder Mark Moussa. The 1,200-square-foot space showcases modern, casual and contemporary lamps, pendants and chandeliers by designers like Barry Dixon, Laura Kirar, Lisa Luby Ryan and more.
Factory Girl
Upscale vintage shop Factory Girl is celebrating its first year with a move to a 3,000-square-foot space down the block from its original home in Deep Ellum. Owners Heather and Scogin Mayo continue to showcase local designers and artists at the new warehouse, where there is more room for those highly sought-after vintage designer threads such as Halston, Lanvin and Moschino Couture. Factory Girl also carries shoes and accessories.
Joe’s Jeans
Joe’s has joined the ranks of NorthPark Center’s designer-jean retailers, such as 7 For All Mankind, True Religion and Lucky Brand. Unlike the flashy, decorative jeans of other designer brands, Joe’s is known simply for great fit, casual washes in many shades and minimal pocket design. In true California style, Joe’s strives to give its customer chill, easy denim for everyday wear.
Michael Kors
Michael Kors was simply testing the waters when he first opened a boutique at NorthPark years ago. But with the overnight success of the highly coveted boyfriend watch for women, it’s clear that shoppers want more. The new-and-improved location is double the size of the original locale — offering, naturally, double the merchandise, including apparel, fragrances, handbags and shoes.
The North Face
The shop at NorthPark Center is the brand’s first standalone store in Texas, offering the coziest outdoor clothing for adventure-seekers. There may not be any mountains or roaring rapids nearby, but North Face also carries men’s, women’s and kid’s running gear, rainwear and lifestyle apparel for year-round activities.
Omega
Not only has the Swiss brand been James Bond’s watch of choice for more than a decade, but Omega has also been the official timekeeper for many of the Olympic Games throughout the past 80 years. Classic to the core, Omega watches have been crafted with the same precision and innovation for more than 150 years, and there is now a shop at NorthPark Center.
Rag & Bone
Formerly carried only at select department stores, Rag & Bone now has a freestanding shop in Highland Park Village, so ladies can browse a greater selection of printed ankle boots, leather motorcycle jackets and tailored jeans. Co-owner David Neville recently visited Dallas to celebrate the store’s opening. “We still need to prove ourselves, and hopefully we can add men’s down the road,” Neville said. For now, the guys will have to shop at the in-store Mac station.
Simply Austin Furniture
This Austin-based home furnishings showroom recently expanded to Dallas, in an old filling station in Oak Cliff. Simply Austin boasts "essential furniture for essential living," with an inventory of affordable eclectic and modern pieces. Shop for dining sets, seating, upholstered furniture, funky lamps and artwork.
Waterworks
The sleek and luxurious bath and kitchen design retailer recently opened a new studio in the Design District. Waterworks offers the finest fixtures, surfaces and textiles; think handmade copper tub from France and exquisite faucetry in a variety of finishes. Although Waterworks has many boutique partners, Dallas has the only standalone location in Texas. Even if you can't afford a thing in the design studio, it's a must-hit for remodeling inspiration.
Wooden House
The Wooden House recently ditched its retail digs on Henderson Avenue and moved everything into its warehouse space in the Design District. Owner Steve Brooks repurposes wooden furniture from all over the world and creates exquisite, affordable masterpieces. For the homeowner with a specific request, he can also build a custom piece — table, bench, mantle — and turn it around in a timely manner. The store also carries eclectic textiles, artwork and lighting from faraway places.
