New celeb-approved ear piercing boutique needles into West Village for Dallas debut

    Stephanie Allmon Merry
    Apr 26, 2023 | 2:47 pm

Bopping to the mall with your girlfriends for a hand-holding, group-ear piercing session followed by warm Cinnabon comfort is so last century. Chic new piercing studios like Studs - debuting in Dallas' West Village on April 26 - take a more modern approach to the body-altering procedure.

"Studs has reimagined the antiquated ear piercing experience for new generations," says a release. "Their trained piercing experts use needles (never piercing guns!), allowing for better precision, safety, and healing."

The brand also touts itself as the authority on "earscaping" (which they capitalize and trademark-symbol in the release), the process of "stacking" several piercings up and down the ear.

"Their knowledgeable and skilled piercing experts offer personalized consultations, advising on the best piercing placement and earrings for your unique ear anatomy and style," they say.

Launched by co-founders Anna Harman and Lisa Bubbers in late 2019 (even before COVID brought health and safety concerns to the forefront of the beauty industry), Studs now has 18 studios nationwide and four in Texas. West Village is its first venture into Dallas-Fort Worth, after two locations in Austin and one in Houston. They clearly know where the piercing action is.

Studs co-founders Anna Harman and Lisa Bubbers have opened their 18th location in Dallas' West Village.

"When choosing a new location, Studs looks for cities with large Gen Z and millennial populations and shopping areas with strong foot traffic from locals and tourists and proximity to trendy and popular restaurants, hotels, coffee shops and boutiques," the founders say in the release. "Opening a new studio in the West Village shopping center was a no-brainer."

Their goal, the founders say, is to connect ear piercing with aftercare and earring shopping in a cool, fun, safe, and welcoming environment - without exorbitant prices. Piercing costs are as follows:

    • 1 Piercing is $35 + the cost of jewelry
    • 2 Piercings are $50 + the cost of two pieces jewelry

Besides offering piercings in a more clinical setting, Studs offers an assortment of affordable, on-trend earrings for purchase. They're sold as singles or pairs, made of high-quality materials, and prices range from $10-$160, they say.

Best-sellers include playful novelty earrings like a cowboy boot huggie ($28), cowboy hat huggie ($28), and Y’ALL stud ($22).

Piercing checkups, piercing jewelry changes, and flatback downsizing are also offered.

In just a few short years, Studs says, it has quickly become a favorite piercing destination for Gen Z and millennial crowds and celebrities, including Kaia Gerber, Emma Chamberlain, Dixie D’Amelio, and Rosalia.

Studs follows the opening of another dedicated ear piercing studio-jewelry boutique, Wildlike, which debuted at Dallas’ Shops of Highland Park in summer of 2021.

The new Studs, West Village, is located at 3699 McKinney Ave # 102, Dallas. Hours are 11am-7pm Monday-Sunday.

Shiner and Texas Standard toast Texas with new apparel collection

The limited-edition Texas Standard x Shiner collection blends performance apparel with classic Texas style.

A pair of Texas favorites are joining forces in fashion: Apparel brand Texas Standard and iconic brewery Shiner have launched a limited-edition capsule collection that celebrates the Lone Star State's unmistakable style, from tailgates to two-stepping.

The new Texas Standard x Shiner collection is way more than a famous beer logo slapped on a t-shirt. This capsule collection was designed to fit in everywhere from dance halls and fishing trips to sports games and happy hours.

Shiner has been brewing beer in Texas for more than a century, and this partnership acknowledges its heritage beyond what’s in the bottle. For Texas Standard, known for modernizing Texas staples with performance fabrics, it was a chance to collaborate with one of the state's most recognizable brands.

"Shiner and Texas Standard already speak the same Texan language, so everything about the collection is authentic, not forced," Joshua Brito, vice president of marketing and direct at Texas Standard, tells CultureMap. "We leaned on the iconic marks and imagery Shiner's built over 100-plus years, then layered in the same authentic Texas details that run through everything we make. One of our goals was to avoid a flat logo lockup merch drop. Every piece needed to be something someone's proud to wear, carrying what Shiner, Texas Standard, and Texas stand for."

That attention to detail shows throughout the collection, which features graphic tees, a baseball cap, pearl snap shirts, and a reimagined version of Texas Standard's bestselling Guayabera Libre. Rather than oversized logos or novelty graphics, Shiner and Texas Standard focused on design details.

The Guayabera Libre features breathable, moisture-wicking fabric with UPF 40. It includes hidden pockets, mesh venting, and a water-resistant finish. This technical fishing shirt, styled as a Texas classic, was made for both hanging out on a boat and at a backyard barbecue.

While the Guayabera Libre shirt might steal the spotlight, it isn’t the only standout. The Traditions Polo in Shiner Gold features hand-drawn illustrations inspired by Texas culture and Shiner's 100-plus-year history. The Western Traditions Polo incorporates pearl snaps and classic yoke styling with lightweight, moisture-wicking fabric, a signature of the Texas Standard.

"We started with pieces that we already know resonate with our shared audience," said Brito. "The Guayabera Libre and pearl snap shirts we're known for include moisture-wicking, breathable fabric from the start, not added on. From there, the Texas flair came easy."

The collection was designed as a standalone release and is expected to remain online through September on Shiner and Texas Standard’s websites.
