Top Shops for January
Where to shop in Dallas right now: 7 must-hit stores for January
As we jump into the new year, we're ready to redecorate our homes and revamp our wardrobes. This month we're revisiting a few favorites, exploring what's new in town and getting a taste of local talent. Here's where to shop in January:
Carlyn Ray Designs
Visit Carlyn Ray's new glass-blowing studio where you can watch her in action, partake in a glass-blowing lesson, purchase beautiful glass gifts or request a delicate custom piece. Ray was a full-time employee of the Chihuly glass-blowing team for two years and creates unforgettable chandeliers, vessels and wall art. Also visit during First Friday or Second Saturday shows for a fun night out.
Front Door Fashion
Okay. So it's not actually a storefront. But the online personal shopping service recently opened a style lounge in the Design District so clients can meet their stylists face-to-face. Fill out a profile online — with your sizes, likes and dislikes — and you can opt to review your selections at the FDF lounge.
Morgan Allen Designs
Whether it's vintage furniture, unique jewelry or cowhide leather rugs, M.A.D is where it's at. Along with finds from many local artists, husband-and-wife owners Blake Allen Penn and Ashley Morgan Cox stock the store with their own lines of jewelry and custom dog furnishings. The shop is closed through January 13 while the crew picks up new treasures.
Planet Bardot
More evidence of the fashion invasion on Knox Street: Planet Bardot. The shop houses a well-edited selection of contemporary women's clothing, accessories and shoes from hot young designers as well as widely recognized names. Think Helmut Lang, Vince, Vivid Classic, Clover Canyon Effect and Robert Rodriguez.
Restoration Hardware
RH has always been a staple for industrial-chic furnishings, hardware, lighting and other essential home decor. But now that its outpost on Knox Street has expanded, choosing which sofa suits you best just got more difficult — in a good way.
Steven Alan
Another win for Knox Street. This boutique just got more fashionable, thanks to an expanded collection of Clare Vivier for Steven Alan handbags. The designer makes day-to-night accessorizing easy with sleek bags such as foldover and flat clutches and overnighter totes. Vivier also does chic sleeves for iPads and laptops.
Trans.lation Vickery Meadow Pop-up Market
Part of the city-wide Nasher Xchange program, this pop-up market led by artist Rick Lowe features art, crafts, jewelry, decorated clothing and more from the multicultural residents of the Vickery Meadow community. Visit 6327 Ridgecrest Rd. on January 18. The market opens at 1 pm.
