Happening Hot Spots
Hip Knox-Henderson openings surround this luxe rental community
We're only a little more than halfway through 2018, but already Knox-Henderson has undergone some major changes. Even better: each one of those changes has made the already cool neighborhood even cooler, and there's more on the horizon.
And right in the middle of it all is the Alexan Henderson. This apartment and townhome community boasts incredible amenities, from a skyline terrace to a CrossFit-inspired strength and cardio gym to electric car-charging stations. The townhomes comes with their own private garage and yard, and Sonos Bluetooth speakers let you enjoy crisp, clear sound throughout your home, all without needing a stereo. The swim-up bar with cabanas and a fire pit, plus an outdoor gaming area and turfed dog park, all give the community a staycation vibe.
All around the Alexan Henderson are the shops and restaurants that have Dallas talking. Smithy, a new bar and eatery from the team behind The Woolworth, opened in April in a space that originally housed Henry Potter's ironwork shop. Just down Henderson Avenue is another buzz-worthy new spot and an import from Fort Worth: Taco Heads. The nominee for best restaurant in CultureMap's 2017 Tastemaker Awards is also listed among Texas Monthly's "top 10 tacos to eat before you die."
Not wanting to be left out, Shell Shack has recently joined in on the fun. The seafood staple left Uptown to move into the old Mellow Mushroom space.
It's not just foodies who are enjoying this surge of openings — clean beauty emporium Follain is opening its first brick-and-mortar store in Texas (and the first outside the Northeast) this fall on Knox Street. Contemporary furniture retailer Room & Board also zeroed in on Dallas for its first presence in the Lone Star State, setting up shop at McKinney and Knox.
A new rezoning project for Henderson Avenue from developer Mark Masinter was recently approved, meaning that 4.5 acres will become the new starting point for retail, restaurants, and office space. Construction is slated to start at the end of 2018, with the project wrapping up in 2020.
