Plano's Legacy food hall rebounds with cheesesteaks and cupcakes
Plano's Legacy food hall is on the rebound with two new restaurants and one bakery coming in spring 2019. One is a California concept known for its high-quality cakes, and there's also a brand new concept doing cheesesteaks.
The new arrivals come following what appeared to be a loss for Legacy Hall when chef John Tesar and some other operators shut down their kiosks. But a spokesman for the food hall says that evolution is part of the game.
"One of the best aspects of a food hall is the ability to continually evolve and change based on the needs and desires of our guests," says Kulsoom Klavon, a VP for Food Hall Co., which is Legacy Hall's parent company.
Here are the newbies coming soon:
Haskell & Worth is a new concept specializing in Philly cheesesteaks. Choices will include thinly sliced rib eye steak or chicken atop a traditional Amaroso roll, with choice of onions, peppers, cheese, and mushrooms. Toppings include Cheese Wiz, provolone, white American cheese, banana peppers, bell peppers, pickled jalapeños, house Giardiniera, Dijon aioli, mayo, Carltons BBQ sauce, ketchup, or Frank’s Red Hot.
Haskell & Worth is from chef Jordan Swim, who also owns Pizza Americana, which CultureMap covered with an unusually extensive story, but we're not bitter in the least to find out about this new concept of his via a press release. Not in the least. It's named after the Dallas crossroads where Swim opened his catering company more than 11 years ago. Swim also runs another stand at the food hall, a BBQ place called Carlton's Provisions.
It'll open at the end of February.
Shayna's Place is the restaurant known for sandwiches, soups, salads, and breakfast, as well as a mission to provide employment opportunities for people with special needs. This location will serve popular items from its other locations including a Greek salad and an East Coast-style grinder sandwich with prosciutto, capicola, provolone, hot peppers, and Shayna’s dressing. Vegetarian and vegan options include avocado toast topped with sprouts. They'll also do a full menu of coffee drinks.
They're opening in the spring.
SusieCakes, the all-American, home-style bakery founded in California, will open its fourth North Texas location inside Legacy Hall. SusieCakes does nostalgic desserts in a friendly old-fashioned neighborhood experience and presents an alternative to the artificial flavors and preservatives found at most grocery-store bakeries. Specialties include frosted layer cakes in familiar flavors such as Southern Red Velvet, Six Layer Chocolate, and Tropical Coconut.
SusieCakes is also opening in the spring.
