California tea chain Krak Boba enters Texas with first shop in Addison
Texas is due to get more boba from California via Krak Boba, a small chain set to open its first location in Addison, at 3767 Belt Line Rd. According to a release, the shop will open on May 25.
Krak was founded in Riverside, California, by CEO and frontman Tin Do, one of three partners who launched the concept in 2020. There are currently a dozen locations spread across Southern California, as well as a location in Orlando, Florida.
Krak is not the first boba chain from California to expand to Texas; most recently a chain called Lazi Cow from Northern California opened a location in Frisco.
Do says Addison is the first of many Krak Boba shops to open in DFW.
"A duo of high quality franchise partners wanted to expand our chain to Texas, with intentions of opening many stores in the greater Dallas Metropolitan area," he says. "We're confident this location will do well in service of its community."
The brand is named for a 1979 children's story called "King Krakus and the Dragon," and the dragon motif surfaces in some of the drink names.
The menu includes milk teas, fruit teas, coffee drinks, and smoothies. Signatures include:
- Queen Brûlée - milk, creme brulee syrup, brown sugar, and boba
- Strawberry Snow - strawberry "snow" shaved ice topped with cream
- Matcha Storm - matcha slush topped with sea salt cream and salted caramel
- Dragon Slayer - lychee slush with dragon fruit and mango
Drinks come in one size only: "large," an excessive 24 ounces. And they're not cheap, starting at $5 to $7, with additions such as boba and cream another 85 cents each.
Before adding new flavors, they test it on themselves.
"In the development process, we seek the advisement of our team members, and only the drinks that have an average score of A- make it on the menu," Do says.
