Treasured East Dallas bakery Lubellas Patisserie closes down temporarily
An acclaimed bakery in East Dallas has closed - temporarily: Lubellas Patisserie, known for its fantastic croissants and pastries, is closing, but only to execute what will be an expansion to almost double its current size.
Located at 10323 Ferguson Rd., in the venerable Casa View Shopping Center, Lubellas is from pastry chef Maria Becerra and her husband Ismael Trejo Gonzalez, who are now expanding into the space next door.
The bakery had its last day on Mother's Day, May 12, and will close down for what they hope will be just a few weeks of construction.
The expansion comes almost two years after they opened in September 2022. During that time, they've earned widespread acclaim for their impeccable baked goods including croissants, Danish, cakes, cookies, muffins, cheesecakes, scones, cinnamon rolls, and brownies. In addition, Becerra is famous for her decorated cakes made to order.
They've also built a big following for their savory items including stunning quiches, tarts, and croissant sandwiches with fillings such as turkey, tuna, chicken pesto, and smoked ham.
Becerra, who is a three-time nominee for CultureMap's Tastemaker Awards for best Pastry Chef in
2022, again in 2023, and once more in 2024, says the expansion will give them twice the space.
"We leased the space next to us," she says. "We have 1500 square feet right now and we are adding 1500 more, for a total of around 3000 square feet. We'll see the benefit both in the front of the house and behind. It means we will have a bigger kitchen and a bigger area for seating."
It's pretty comprehensive including new electrical, a new AC unit, new plumbing, floors, walls, and another restroom. Those who want to support the bakery can buy gift cards for family and friends. Becerra is very responsive on Instagram.
"We just need to merge the two spaces," she says. "It's a big investment, but the response we've received keeps us motivated to do it. It's a lot, but we have faith we can make it happen."
