To celebrate the holiday season, Friends of the Dallas Arboretum were summoned to the historic DeGolyer Estate for a cocktail party blooming with ornaments, shiny attire, and festive red and green decor.
At the private affair, guests viewed the Dvorsky and Harrington collections in the Artistry of the Nativity. Broadway actor George Dvorsky began collecting nativity art — specifically painted pewter pieces — as a young adult. Today, Dvorsky has more than 200 creches in his collection.
The Harrington family donated their nativity collection to the Dallas Arboretum in 2001. It contains a couple hundred pieces on a variety of mediums, including coconuts.
While carolers sang Christmas tunes, attendees — including Linda and Ed Perrin, Laura and John Tyson, Holly Mayer, Sara Martineau, Joyce Mitchell, Courtney and Andrew Nall, Blythe and Jerry McPhail, Jan and Gerry Worrell, Vera Thornton, Brian Shivers, and Joyce Mitchell — indulged in holiday favorites such as turkey, beef tenderloin, mashed potatoes, green beans and chocolate cake.
After sipping a few cocktails, feasting on a decadent meal and taking in the artwork on display, there's no doubt that Dallas Arboretum devotees walked away feeling the holiday spirit.
