Dude, Sweet nabs final slot at 2013 International Chocolate Awards
Dallas-based chocolatier Dude, Sweet Chocolate earned a nod for its chocolate spread in the 2013 International Chocolate Awards, a new competition introduced in 2012 that recognizes excellence in chocolate around the world.
Dude, Sweet's Tub of Love Italian hazelnut chocolate spread was chosen as one of three semi-finalists in the "dark chocolate spread" category, announced on June 30 at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City. The other two semi-finalists were the highly regarded Askinosie Chocolate of Springfield, Missouri, and the Secret Chocolatier of Charlotte, North Carolina.
The finalists were chosen after two days of judging by nearly 100 judges. The gold- and silver-winning products in each category will be announced at a ceremony in New York in September.
Other chocolate categories included truffles, pralines, caramels and gianduiotto.
Dude, Sweet's Katherine Clapner works only with dark chocolate and creates unique treats like chocolate salami, bourbon chocolate sauce, cocoa-infused aged balsamic and Italian hazelnut chocolate spread. She currently has three locations in Dallas-Fort Worth.
