    Where to shop in Dallas right now: 8 must-hit stores for September

    It’s September and it’s still hot, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited about fall by shopping for cool-weather clothing. Whether it’s a pop-up, a new boutique, or an annual celebration of fashion, this month is packed with plenty of shop-till-you-drop options.

    AYR Denim at Nordstrom
    Remember this clever brand from Bonobos founder Andy Dunn? You know, the great-fitting jeans for women made with high-quality materials? Well, the brand is popping up at NorthPark Center this fall, with AYR Denim to be sold exclusively at Nordstrom. The line ranges from $95-$750 and offers silk blouses, weightless button-downs, and cashmere sweaters. Check it out anytime after September 5.

    Bluemercury Southlake
    This luxury, one-stop beauty shop has opened its second Texas location in Southlake Town Center. It offers more than 90 skincare and cosmetics brands like Laura Mercier, Nars, and its signature M-61 brand, along with a laundry list of spa services. This is the best beauty store to hit the ’burbs in a long time.

    Edo Popken
    During the month of September, designer Edo Popken launches his Edo Gives Back WEARhouse event. When you purchase one item at the Design District store, you get one item free, and one is donated to charity.

    Fashion X Dallas
    The three-day fashion event at F.I.G. is back for its second year and opens with Stars Presented by Bernina, a rare opportunity to view eight prominent and well-known designers. Discover featured collections by the most promising emerging designers from around the country. The Gallery, a pop-up shop featuring more than 40 stunning jewelry and accessories lines, opens pre- and post-show each night.

    Lion & Witch
    The Shops of Highland Park has an exciting new clothing boutique from Brittany York, owner of Milk & Honey Boutique on Henderson Avenue. Inspired by C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, this magical shop offers elegant togs without budget-busting price tags. Featured lines include Kris Nations Jewelry, Do + Be, Cameo, Style Stalker, Amanda Uprichard, and the private label B. York, York’s newest project.

    Local Global Social Pop-Up Shop
    This first-time event, happening on September 12 from 9 am to 3 pm at Acme Creation Lab, features North and Central Texas designers, artists, and resellers offerings hundreds of items. Both new and vintage, the goodies include furniture, art, home décor, collectibles, and apparel. Participating vendors are local businesses united by their passion for encouraging positive social, ecological, or global change. Vendors include Paige Morse Creative, GAIA For Women, Set & Co., and more. Prices range from $25 to $2,000.

    Mill No. 3
    Located in Turtle Creek Village, this new women’s shop offers a curated assortment of simple statement pieces that are as versatile as they are beautiful. The shop also is collaborating with Austin-based boutique The Distillery on a capsule collection of mostly vintage jewelry pieces, available only at Mill No. 3.

    Vineyard Vines
    This preppy shop, known for its whimsical neckties and smiling pink whale logo, is now open in NorthPark Center. It offers a variety of clothing and accessories for men, women, and children.

    Legendary Dallas designer debuts sleek new women’s collection

    You may not know his name, but Geoffrey Henning likely had a hand in shaping your wardrobe.

    The designer’s 20-plus years at Dallas-based JCPenney, culminating as Vice President of Design across men’s, women’s, and children’s categories, put him in the unique position of dressing a substantial percentage of the population.

    His unique eye, first honed at the studio of the legendary Alfred Sung in Canada, and later in New York, went on to help inform the look of an era for middle America through one the biggest retailers of its time. If you’re envisioning the “Cerulean Sweater” scene from The Devil Wears Prada right now, you’re on the right track.

    In February 2025, Henning entered his post-JCP era — but a retirement, it’s certainly not. He recently debuted an all-new collection called GRACITY/tx that reflects the whole of his experiences thus far.

    "I have been very fortunate over my career to journey through the different aspects of design," Henning says. "From starting with a purity of ethos at a designer level, to inspiring style at an accessible price point, which allowed for a broader expression of my craft."

    This combination of influences is at the heart of GRACITY/tx, named for “gray, the space between extremes.”

    "When I look at the women who have influenced me over the years, there is a common theme: vulnerability and strength," he says.

    Leading with subtle sophistication, the line includes dresses, outerwear, and separates that are sleek, versatile, and impeccably styled. Above all, they project the wearer’s own self-confidence.

    Attendees at the recent debut show included Dallas fashion insider Rhonda Sargent Chambers, who recalled that "when Geoffrey and I first met, I was struck by his deep knowledge of fashion design, fabric origins and history."

    "His creative designs have graced our presence for over twenty years, and he is now creating pieces that no one has seen elsewhere," Chambers said.

    Nikki Solomon, founder of Inwood Village designer boutique Rich Hippie, echoed the sentiment succinctly: “No one does it like Geoffrey," she said.

    Henning, not one for the spotlight, observed quietly while stying a model in alternating looks: a stunning chemise to dress up or down, a halter in black and white, an impeccably constructed strapless mini to wear through all four seasons. Details like leather belts and exposed hook-and-eye closures bring a touch of Dallas-specific drama.

    The collection can be found at Elements in Dallas, Sloan/Hall in Houston, and private trunk shows that they market on social media. Prices range from $200 for shell tops to $2,000 for long dresses, and they're also planning to add a shop button to their website.

    Ultimately, the occasion represented a new tick on a timeline that has proved, throughout the years, this designer’s deep understanding of the people he dresses and the city they love, another balance of contrasts.

    “My work brought me here, but Dallas has kept me because it’s bold, it’s proud, it’s authentic, it loves the arts, and it remains grounded in the spirit of the Wild West," Henning says.
