Dallas custom clothier dips into retail with new Inwood Village store
Dallas-based custom clothier J.Hilburn is branching out beyond its custom-clothing roots and joining the world of retail with a new store at 5350 W. Lovers Ln., in Inwood Village.
Opening November 16, J.Hilburn Studio will stock an array of ready-to-wear from its own label and a variety of other brands — think Allen Edmonds shoes and denim by AG Jeans, J Brand, and DL 1961 — as well as the custom clothing for which it’s known.
A one-stop shop for everything the Dallas man needs, J.Hilburn Studio offers options for workday, weekend, and formal evening. Trained personal stylists keep you on track with your selections.
There is one catch, though: Unlike a traditional retail store, where you can walk out with your purchase right then and there, with J.Hilburn, there is a wait. Custom shirts can take two weeks for delivery; custom suits take four. However, ready-to-wear pieces are delivered in two days.
“Dallas is a natural choice for our first retail space,” said co-founder and CEO Veeral Rathod in a release. “This is our hometown and one of the most important cities in menswear.”
Taking design inspiration from art galleries and luxury car dealerships, the interior of the store is sleek and modern. It combines elements of menswear, such as herringbone flooring and charcoal flannel fabric walls.
Founded in 2007 by two former Wall Street workers who believed quality custom menswear shouldn’t break the bank, J.Hilburn offers what few others can: custom-fit clothing at prices that are dwarfed by luxury retail stores.
In order to keep costs down on its custom line, J.Hilburn cuts out the middle man and instead buys material directly from noted manufacturers like Albini, Liberty of London, Tessitura Monti, and Thomas Mason, passing along the savings they get by ordering wholesale to the customer.
The new store, which replaces the showroom on Mockingbird Lane, will be open Monday-Saturday, 10 am-6 pm.
