More pizza on the way: Mountain Mike’s Pizza, a chain founded in California in 1978, is expanding to Texas with a location opening in Lewisville, at 4740 TX-121 #900.

According to a release, it's coming to Lewisville via franchisees Steve and Adam Zeigler of Zeigler & Son, who own eight Jersey Mike’s throughout Texas. It'll open by the end of the year.

UPDATE 12-20-2022: The restaurant is now open.

Mountain Mike's was founded in Palo Alto, and now has more than 250 locations across California, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and Idaho.

Their signature is their "legendary crispy curly pepperoni," where the pepperoni slices curve up into little cups. This is accomplished by enclosing the pepperoni in a collagen casing which causes it to shrink in the oven into little cups. Quite the culinary achievement.

Varieties are standard: an all-meat, a vegetarian with pizza "vegetables" such as olives & mushrooms, and a garlic combo, also with mushrooms & olives plus the legendary pepperoni.

Other varieties include a bacon pizza, a chicken club pizza, and a garlic chicken pizza.

Non-pizza items include wings in a variety of flavors, both boneless and bone-in, plus salads, mozzarella sticks, crinkle-cut wedge potato fries, desserts, beer, and wine.

Steve Zeigler explains in a statement why Mountain Mike's caught their eye.

“When looking to expand our franchise portfolio, Mountain Mike’s stood out because of its family-first values, top-notch pizza, and unique selling points that you just can’t find anywhere else, like its legendary crispy, curly pepperoni and 20-inch mountain-sized pizzas," Zeigler says. "Recognizing that North Texas lacked a family-style pizza concept that caters to families, sports fans and celebratory occasions, we’re confident Mountain Mike’s will be a big hit in Texas, starting with Lewisville!”

The family angle is reiterated in a statement by Mountain Mike's president & COO Jim Metevier.
