A unique sliders restaurant is making its Dallas debut: Called Smalls Sliders, it's an Atlanta-based burger chain that will be located at 1681 N. Hardin Blvd., just off US-380, where it will open April 21.

Smalls Sliders specializes in cheeseburger sliders and is also known for its unique storefront model. Called the "Smorange Can," it's made from shipping containers painted a bright orange — a unique modular buildout that includes a drive-thru and walk-up window.

The concept is the brainchild of restaurateur Brandon Landry, with investors that include former NFL star Drew Brees. This will be the second location in Texas following the opening of a location in Willis, outside Houston, in January.

Brees is a busy bee in the restaurant industry, having also invested in Jimmy John's, and is a co-owner of Walk-On's Bistreaux & Bar, the Baton Rouge-based chain which has two locations in DFW, in Arlington and The Colony.

Smalls' sliders come in single-patty or double-patty versions with American cheese, Smauce, and pickle on a toasted bun. A single slider is $2.79. The menu also features waffle fries, grilled cheese sandwiches, queso, and milkshakes in chocolate, vanilla, or cookies & cream. A typical order is two sliders with a side of waffle fries. You can also get the waffle fries smothered in queso.

Bringing the concept to McKinney is Serendipity Provisions LLC, a hospitality group, who have big plans to open more locations around DFW. But McKinney first.

“We were drawn to McKinney because it’s a historic town with a loyal population, which makes bringing Smalls Sliders here a significant moment for our team and the community,” says Serendipity representative Chris Raleigh. “We’re thrilled to introduce residents to the bold flavors and unique experiences that Smalls Sliders offers."

To celebrate the opening, the first 100 guests at the McKinney Can will receive a pair of Smorange slides, as in flip-flops.
