Bar off Dallas' Henderson Ave launches pop-culture pop-up of the summer
A Dallas bar famous for its pop-culture pop-ups is at it again: The Whippersnapper, located off Henderson Avenue at 1806 McMillan Ave., is transforming into a cocktail pop-up with the hottest theme of the summer: Barbie.
Called BAR-bie, it'll be an immersive experience that captures the essence of Barbie's World from a Dreamhouse-worthy lounge, and it opens on August 10.
According to a release, the outside of the venue will resemble a life-sized Dream House; inside will feature themed decorations such as a Corvette bed, digital photobooth, accessory wall, and more.
Staff members will don themed looks from different eras of Barbie's history.
The Whippersnapper has executed many a previous pop-up in pop-culture themes such as Austin Powers, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, The Simpsons, The Office, and Friends.
Barbie is the prevailing theme for the summer of 2023, thanks to Barbie, the film starring Margot Robbie.
"The BAR-bie pop-up will transport patrons to their own dream world. Everyone has their own take on the doll, and we can’t wait to see all the different ‘Barbs’ and Ken that walk through our doors," says Phil Schanbaum, co-founder of This and That Hospitality, which owns the Whippersnapper. “With everyone talking about the movie, we whipped up our spin on the beloved theme.”
BAR-bie will also have a pop-up menu of food and drinks with items such as Barbie's Burger, Teresa's Tenders — ooh those sound intriguing! — and the California Club, as well as custom cocktails such "Life in Plastic" and "He's just Ken."
There will also be a charitable aspect: At the end of its run, Bar-bie will gather Barbie dolls and accessories and donate everything to charity.
The pop-up will be ages 21+ and free to the public. Guests looking to avoid lines can reserve booths by contacting info@thewhipdallas.com. Hours are Wednesday-Saturday, 6 pm-2 am. It'll end on September 30.
