Supermarket chain H-E-B breaks ground on new location in Rockwall
The ground has been broken on the newest H-E-B coming to Dallas-Fort Worth: According to a release, H-E-B officially started construction on its H-E-B store in Rockwall, located at the southwest corner of I-30 and South John King Boulevard in Rockwall County.
The store is anticipated to open in late 2025.
At 131,000 square feet, the Rockwall store will be similar to other mega-stores that have opened in the DFW area.
It will include a full-service H-E-B Pharmacy with a drive-thru, True Texas BBQ restaurant, and H-E-B Curbside and Home Delivery, which will allow customers to place orders online for pickup at the store or delivery to the home.
At a groundbreaking ceremony on June 27, H-E-B gifted $10,000 each to Rockwall ISD Education Foundation, Children’s Advocacy Center for Rockwall County, Rockwall County Helping Hands, Friends of the Rockwall County Library, and Rainbow Room of Rockwall County.
Rockwall will join H-E-B stores that have opened in Plano, Frisco, Allen, McKinney, Fort Worth/Alliance, and Mansfield; in fact, H-E-B Mansfield just opened on June 26. Ground has already been broken on new locations in Melissa, slated to open in early 2025, and Prosper, slated to open in fall 2025.
Prosper will be 132,000 square feet, the largest so far, just barely beating Rockwall's 131,000 square feet.
Will they ever open an H-E-B in Dallas? If and when that ever happens, that will be huge news. Not that this store in Rockwall is not big news. And what of the Central Market that was supposed to open in the former Albertsons store at 3524 McKinney Ave. in Uptown? These are the nagging questions for H-E-B, a company in an industry that is notoriously circumspect.
H-E-B also recently opened Joe V’s Smart Shop Wheatland, its sibling concept with a smaller selection of goods, at 4101 W. Wheatland Rd. in Dallas. And work has started on a second Joe V’s Smart Shop at 5204 S. Buckner Blvd. in Dallas, expected to open in spring 2025.
