First Sight
Designer luncheon teases Dallas Opera lovers with season sneak peek
Opera lovers crowded into the lobby of the Winspear Opera House on October 29 for First Sight, a fashion-forward peek at the company's upcoming season, and as a teaser for the swanky First Night gala that occurs the following evening.
Chairs Ellen and Don Winspear and honorary chairs Mayor Mike Rawlings and Micki Rawlings welcomed supporters for the kickoff event, in which some of Dallas' most revered designers created couture looks inspired by the works the opera is presenting during its 59th season.
A flowing gown in jade green by Geoffrey Henning represented Great Scott, the original opera by Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally about a famous opera star who returns to save her hometown's struggling opera company. Khanh Nguyen's scarlet satin dress with glittery gold trim evoked the Rome-set Tosca, while Elizabeth Anyaa's inky blue creation for Manon called to mind the Parisian glamour of Belle Epoque France.
Swedish designer Edo Popken got playful with a red and white suit for Becoming Santa Claus, and Michael Faircloth utilized fringe for his swingy Show Boat dress.
British clothing and accessories company Mulberry rounded out the fashion show and created a purse wonderland where guests — including
— could mingle before enjoying a gourmet lunch by Wolfgang Puck.
